Some of the most significant finds of Etruscan civilisation are situated in the nearby archaeological park of Baratti and Populonia. Visitors can explore the remains of an Etruscan city, and a necropolis of graves and burial chambers. The Etruscan museum in the village of Populonia is also well worth seeing.

Castagneto-Carducci is the perfect base for daytrips to destinations throughout Tuscany. There are regular ferries from Piombino to the island of Elba. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and Massa Marittima can be easily reached by car or train.

The famous Tarot-Garden of the sculptress Niki de Saint Phalle, situated in Capalbio south of Grosseto, is open from the beginning of May until October.
