Bolgheri-Castagneto is a small winegrowing area which has attracted the biggest producers, and its wines are now known the throughout the world. The hilly countryside that joins the provinces of Pisa and Livorno is home to three wines with DOC appellations: Montescudaio, the Val di Cornia and Bolgheri, which lies in between the two. Bolgheri’s wines have been hugely successful, and, since the Marquis in Chisa introduced his Sassicaia to the market in the 1970s, this area has become the Eldorado of Italian wine in the space of only a few decades.
